General Information

Important Information
You are an international student starting your first semester at a German university? Or a student from Germany who wants to prepare for your studies abroad?

Many students now spend part or all of their studies abroad. Knowledge of the shaping influence of culture is more important than ever in our globalized world with its various migration movements. Also the advancing internationalisation of German universities makes more and more them a place of linguistic and cultural diversity. As a result, the issue of interculturality is becoming increasingly important for all students and teachers. Intercultural competences are a central key qualification at the university, which is characterized by linguistic and cultural heterogeneity. This is particularly true for the University of Freiburg. Together with the Universities of Basel, Haute-Alsace and Strasbourg and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology it forms the Eucor - The European Campus network. However, the number of people and contacts from other cultures are not only increasing in the course of studies, but also in the world of work environment and private life.
Syllabus
Basis knowledge of interculturality:
- Understanding culture: What does 'culture' mean?
- Cultural diversity: What is your cultural background?
- Intercultural communication: How can I improve myself?
- Intercultural competence: What characterizes an intercultural competent person?
